THE CANCER BREAKTHROUGH YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF
Dateline: Houston, Texas -- For over 100 years surgeons have believed they
had to remove every last cancer cell in order to cure this dread disease.
Yet, careful, scientific research has reversed this conclusion. Hundreds of
leading surgeons and scientists have proven that conservative surgery is safe
and effective for most, if not all, types of cancer. The spread of malignant cells
is now viewed in an entirely different way. Cure is not dependent upon radical
surgery. We are in the midst of great change - a paradigm shift, which surgical
oncologist Dr. Richard A. Evans calls The Cancer Breakthrough You've Never
Heard Of (Texas Cancer Center). This is also the title of his new book, being
released nationwide this September, 2001.
Most of the information provided in his book is available nowhere else in the
lay media. For example; as recently as April of 2001, a study which used
hormonal therapy to treat prostrate cancer was released to physicians
worldwide. The study found that hormonal treatment is safe and effective.
It is a prudent alternative to surgery and radiation. But, many urologists
still perform a radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, which usually causes
permanent impotence and occasionally incontinence.
Additionally, doctors in Canada and France (who were early pioneers in the use
of lumpectomy to treat breast cancer) published findings in April of 2000.
They found that a "lumpectomy" procedure was also highly successful in the
treatment of cervical cancer. But, most U.S. gynecologists insist on performing
a radical hysterectomy. A permanent colostomy, genital mutilation and
malfunction, infertility and unsightly scars are other common consequences
of aggressive surgery.
This information is available to all physicians, but many cancer specialists are
reluctant to accept new ideas and continue to promote radical surgical
procedures. Most surgeons who perform a lumpectomy for breast cancer still
insist on postoperative radiation therapy, even though radiation does not
prolong survival. Physicians in major medical centers are the leading proponents of radical surgery, as they wield their political, financial, and decision-making influence within the medical community. They continue to recommend overly aggressive treatment - too much surgery, too much radiation, too much chemotherapy.
In his book, Dr. Evans walks readers through the cancer treatment process,
using layman's English. He explains the prudent options available to them.
He recommends that patients seek a "real" second opinion from an advocate
of limited surgery. Many cancer specialists dismiss these conservative
treatment options, considering any second opinion a challenge to their authority. Needless to say, some cancer "experts" do not want patients to learn about this book.
In 1998 Dr. Evans founded The Texas Cancer Center (a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit
organization). Its mission is to ensure that all patients facing treatment for
cancer have access to the pertinent medical information they need in order to
choose their own best treatment. They should have a clear understanding of all
the prudent treatment options. With the advise and support of their doctors,
patients should feel free to make the treatment decision that is right for them.
